What was the food highlight of your year?
My friend invited me to a real boucherie that was put on by a group called Runaway Dish out of Lafeyette. I got there a little later in the afternoon-- I think they had gotten started at dawn. So by the time I got there the pig had been fully taken apart and turned into numerous things: boudin, etc. The ritual obviously dates back to days when refrigerating parts of the animal for later use just wasn't an option. So its an interesting way to see how every part of the pig was put to some use as soon as they kill it. I got to have some blood boudin and some incredible hogs head cheese.
What was the music highlight of your year?
Just the other night I saw Vockah Redu at a small club called Siberia here in New Orleans. I'd recommend seeing him live if you can.
Was there a moment when food and music came together in a memorable way?
Our drummer Eric Rogers and I invented a sandwich. Really, he did all the work. I just ate it.
