What was the food highlight of your year?
I gotta say going to the Dominican Republic with Valrohna. It is a very small production cacao plantation called Lomo Sotavento that is special for the flavor and the proceeds go towards a childrens school in the poorest part of the country. Special in so many ways.
What was the music highlight of your year?
It was a christmas eve yoga class. I know this sounds weird but it was a season sun salutation class that started with Planet Caravan by Black Sabbath then proceeded with Lynyrd Skynrd, Neal Young, Aerosmith, Pink Floyd, Beatles, Sub Oslo, Joe Cocker, and The Orb. It was pure magic and a great class lead by LJ at Sync Yoga, Dallas.
Was there a moment when food and music came together in a memorable way?
Every year Ron Thai comes to town either with Guns and Roses or himself. He stops at my shop and Pecan Lodge BBQ. This year it was the guitar gods tour. Holy shit that was loud but Ron kicked ass. But as I was in the crowd with my roomate Eddie and Justin and Diane from Pecan Lodge, he started out thanking them and wishing and singing me Happy Birthday to start the set. I was so sweet and he really loves food and knows a lot more than about it than you might think.
